Prynt Desktop
The optional Windows app and the Download Center: local printing of PDF and ZPL, installation, updates and security model.
Prynt is a web application: you design, publish and render in the browser at app.prynt.it, with nothing to install. Prynt Desktop is an optional Windows app that shows the same application in its own window and adds what a browser cannot do: printing to the printers of your computer and sending ZPL labels to the label printers of your local network.
What it adds
- Windows printers: documents go straight to the printers installed on the computer (office printers, print servers, label printers), with the number of copies you choose, with or without the Windows print dialog.
- ZPL labels: labels go as raw ZPL to a Zebra printer with a Windows queue (USB or shared) or to a network label printer of your LAN on a raw printing port. The cloud never has to reach your network: the app, which runs inside it, sends the data.
- A dedicated window in the taskbar, Windows notifications and
prynt://links that open a page of the application. - Automatic updates, downloaded in the background.
Everything else works exactly as in the browser, with the same account. You don't need Prynt Desktop to generate documents through the API: your systems receive the PDF or ZPL and print it themselves.
The Download Center
Everything Prynt offers to install is on one page of the application, the Download Center (account menu or Help menu → Downloads). Every file is served by the platform itself, with its size and SHA-256:
- Prynt Desktop for Windows: the installer for the architecture of your computer (x64 or ARM64), the installer of the other architecture and the two portable ZIP files.
- Prynt Gateway: the packages for Windows, Linux and Docker, to reach databases on a private network (see Gateway). Installing one always needs the token of a gateway you add in a workspace.
- Developer tools: the OpenAPI 3.1 document of the public API, the API reference and explorer, and the SDKs.
The Prynt Desktop page of the application explains the app and offers the right download for your computer. If the installers have not been published on the server yet, both pages say so instead of offering a download.
Install
Windows10 (1809+) / 11- x64 or ARM64. macOS and Linux are not supported: keep using Prynt in the browser there.
Rightsper user- The installer installs for your Windows user, without administrator rights.
WebView2Evergreen- The Microsoft Edge WebView2 runtime, already present on Windows 11 and most Windows 10 computers; the installer adds it if it is missing.
- Installer (
PryntDesktop-win-x64-Setup.exeor-win-arm64-): installs for your user, updates itself and registersprynt://links. - Portable (ZIP): unzip and run, for computers where installing is not allowed. No automatic updates, no
prynt://links. - After installing, open the app and sign in with the same account: the browser's session does not move to the app.
To check a download, compare its hash with the SHA-256 shown in the Download Center:

Uninstalling (Windows Settings → Apps) removes the app and the prynt:// protocol. Your local profile in %LOCALAPPDATA%\Prynt\Desktop (session, settings, logs) is kept.
Printing from Prynt
The print controls exist only inside Prynt Desktop; in a normal browser they are hidden. Inside the app a Print button appears:
- in the PDF preview of the Designer and in the render test: choose a Windows printer, the copies (1–99) and, if you want, Print without the Windows dialog;
- next to Download in the detail of a run with a stored document, PDF or ZPL;
- in the test print of a ZPL label, where This computer sits next to Server test printer: the label goes to a Windows queue, to a network printer configured in the app, or to an address of your LAN.
Prynt remembers the last printer you chose for PDF and for ZPL. PDF pages are rendered by Windows at 300 dpi and sent to the print queue; a PDF may have up to 1,000 pages and 50 MB. ZPL is sent once and never retried automatically, so a label is never printed twice by mistake.
ZPL through a Windows queue
Labels go to a Windows queue as raw data. Use the Zebra ZDesigner driver or a Generic / Text Only queue: a v4 or XPS driver that refuses raw data fails with PRINT_FAILED.
Network label printers
A label can go straight to a network printer by address (for example 192.168.1.50 or 192.168.1.50:9100). So that a web page can never use the app to scan your network or reach the internet, an address typed in Prynt is accepted only when:
- the port is a raw printing port,
9100–9109(default 9100); - every address the host resolves to is private:
10.0.0.0/8,172.16.0.0/12,192.168.0.0/16,169.254.0.0/16,fc00::/7,fe80::/10. Public, CGNAT, multicast and loopback addresses are refused withTARGET_NOT_ALLOWED.
Printers configured on the computer are always allowed, at any address and port, and appear by name in the printer list. Configure them in the optional settings file of the app (restart the app after a change):

Updates
The installed app checks for a new version 20 seconds after starting and then every 4 hours, downloads it in the background and offers Restart now or Later; with Later the update applies at the next start. Portable copies do not update themselves: download a new ZIP from the Download Center.
Security model
- The window shows only the Prynt application. Other links open in your default browser;
file:,javascript:and other schemes are blocked, and certificate errors are never bypassed. - Only the application's own pages can use the printing functions, and only a fixed set of typed operations: list printers, print a PDF, send ZPL, save a file, show a notification. No operation runs programs or accepts file paths.
- Network printing reaches only printers of your local network (see above).
- It runs as your Windows user, without administrator rights. Its log (
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Prynt\Desktop\logs) never contains the content of your documents.
Troubleshooting
PRINTER_UNAVAILABLEerror- The printer could not be reached. Nothing was sent: check that it is on and connected, then try again.
PRINTER_SEND_FAILEDerror- The connection broke while sending: some labels may have printed. Check the printer before trying again.
TARGET_NOT_ALLOWEDerror- The address is not a private address on port 9100–9109. Use a LAN address, or configure the printer in zplPrinters.
PRINT_FAILEDerror- Windows refused the job. For ZPL, use a driver that accepts raw data (ZDesigner or Generic / Text Only).
PRINTER_NOT_FOUNDerror- The Windows printer no longer exists. Choose another one.
PAYLOAD_TOO_LARGEerror- The document is beyond the limits (PDF: 50 MB, 1,000 pages). Download it and print it from another program.
DOWNLOAD_FAILEDerror- A stored document could not be downloaded: your session or the document may have expired.
